  • How does the Student Union work?

  • What skills do I need?

    No pattern making skills are required. General computers skills are needed. You should be able to use Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer. You should be able to copy, paste, and find files. You should also have a basic understanding of web browsers and downloading files from the internet. If you are unfamiliar with these basic Windows functions, take our free Windows Explorer class.

  • Can I register for a class after it has started?

    All live classes have been recorded and are available for immediate purchase and download. Instructors are available in the Student Union to answer questions about each lesson.

  • Do I get a degree?

    Fashion Design Online does not award degrees and is not affiliated with nor accredited by any university or college.

  • Can I use my own CAD program?

    Fashion Design Online classes have been specially created for use with our Pattern Editor CAD program. The Pattern Editor has tools designed specifically for apparel pattern making. The Pattern Editor software will be provided as part of your registration fees.

  • How much time do classes take?

    Lessons are mostly self-paced. You can download the class materials at any time after they have been posted and study at your own pace. Students can interact with each other 24 hours a day in our Student Union. Instructors will provide weekly live presentations demonstrating pattern making techniques. Instructors will also be available to answer questions in live Q & A sessions and private email.

  • Are the instructors well-qualified?

    Our classes are taught by recognized professionals in the apparel and theatrical costuming industries who have been making patterns using CAD for more than 10 years. Dr. Lisa Shanley was head of the Fashion Design program at Auburn University for 9 years. Rowena Aldridge has been the costumer and pattern maker for the Vanderbilt University Opera. Instructors will present live demonstrations of class topics once or twice a week. Live Q & A sessions with instructors will be scheduled weekly. Instructors will also answer private questions by email. Learn from the experts.

  • Is my privacy protected?

    Yes, our Student Union can only be accessed by registered class members. You can choose to hide or show your email address and other personal information in the Student Union.
